A Roll Forming Machine Field Service Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of roll forming machines at customer sites. This role typically involves traveling to various locations to provide technical support and ensure that the roll forming equipment is functioning efficiently and correctly.

Here’s an overview of what the job may entail:

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Installation & Setup:
    • Assemble and install roll forming machines, ensuring proper alignment and calibration of components.
    • Set up machines according to customer specifications and job requirements, including feed systems, forming dies, and auxiliary equipment like uncoilers and runout tables.
  2. Maintenance & Repair:
    • Perform routine preventive maintenance, such as lubricating moving parts, checking machine tolerances, and replacing worn components.
    • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, or pneumatic systems in roll forming equipment.
    • Ensure safety protocols are followed during all maintenance activities.
  3. Troubleshooting:
    • Identify and troubleshoot issues in roll forming processes, such as misalignment, jamming, or output inconsistencies.
    • Use diagnostic tools, blueprints, or schematics to locate the problem and perform corrective measures.
    • Work closely with the customer to understand machine performance and issues in production.
  4. Customer Training:
    • Provide training to machine operators and maintenance teams on the proper use, operation, and upkeep of roll forming machines.
    • Offer advice on optimizing machine settings to improve production efficiency and output quality.
  5. Documentation:
    • Keep accurate records of service visits, maintenance tasks, and parts replaced.
    • Create service reports for each visit, detailing the work performed and recommendations for future maintenance or upgrades.
  6. Technical Support:
    • Serve as the point of contact for customers who need immediate technical assistance.
    • Assist with remote troubleshooting and guidance over the phone or through digital platforms when on-site visits are not possible.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Technical Proficiency: Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems in roll forming machines.
  • Problem-Solving Ability: Ability to quickly diagnose and solve problems in complex machinery.
  • Attention to Detail: Precision in calibrating machines and performing maintenance tasks.
  • Customer Service: Excellent communication skills to work with customers and provide clear instructions and updates.
  • Physical Ability: Capability to lift heavy equipment, work in tight spaces, and travel to various customer locations.
