What Is a Z Purlin?

A Z purlin is a cold-formed structural steel section shaped like the letter “Z.” Unlike C purlins, Z purlins are designed to lap over supports, providing improved load distribution and structural efficiency for long spans.

Z purlins are commonly used in:

Pre-engineered steel buildings (PEB)
Industrial warehouses and factories
Commercial steel structures
Agricultural and logistics buildings

They are especially favored for roof systems requiring strength and continuity.
