Lubrication Timer Module

1. Technical Definition

A lubrication timer module is an electronic control device used to automatically regulate the timing and frequency of lubrication cycles within a machine’s lubrication system.

The module activates lubrication pumps or valves at preset intervals to deliver oil or grease to machine components. This automation ensures consistent lubrication without requiring manual intervention.

In roll forming machines, lubrication timer modules are commonly used in systems supporting:

Centralized lubrication systems
Automatic grease lubrication pumps
Oil lubrication circuits
Chain drive lubrication systems
Bearing lubrication networks

They help maintain consistent lubrication and prevent component wear.

2. Where It Is Located

Lubrication timer modules are installed within the machine’s electrical control system or lubrication control panel.

Common installation locations in roll forming machines include:

Electrical control cabinets
Central lubrication system control panels
Machine automation panels
Lubrication pump control boxes
PLC interface systems

They are typically positioned near lubrication pumps or integrated with machine control systems.

3. Primary Functions

3.1 Control Lubrication Intervals

Determines when lubrication cycles occur.

3.2 Automate Lubrication Systems

Triggers lubrication pumps without manual operation.

3.3 Regulate Lubrication Duration

Controls how long the pump or valve remains active.

3.4 Improve Lubrication Consistency

Ensures machine components receive regular lubrication.

4. How It Works

The lubrication timer module operates using programmable time settings.

Typical operation process:

The technician programs lubrication intervals and cycle duration.

The module counts down based on the preset timing schedule.

When the timer reaches the programmed interval, it activates the lubrication pump or valve.

Oil or grease is delivered to lubrication points.

After the preset lubrication duration, the timer turns the system off.

The timer resets and begins counting toward the next lubrication cycle.

This process ensures automatic lubrication during machine operation.

5. Types of Lubrication Timer Modules

Analog Timer Module

Uses mechanical or dial controls to set timing intervals.

Digital Timer Module

Uses electronic programming with digital displays.

PLC-Controlled Lubrication Timer

Integrated into the machine PLC system.

Multi-Cycle Lubrication Controller

Allows multiple lubrication zones with independent timing.

6. Construction & Materials

Lubrication timer modules are electronic devices designed for industrial environments.

Common materials include:

Industrial plastic electronic housings

These symptoms may indicate timer module malfunction.

14. Installation Requirements

Proper installation of lubrication timer modules includes:

Mounting the module inside an electrical panel
Connecting electrical power supply
Wiring output signals to lubrication pumps or valves
Programming correct timing intervals

Correct installation ensures accurate lubrication control.

15. Maintenance Requirements

Routine maintenance should include:

Inspecting electrical connections
Verifying timer programming settings
Testing lubrication cycle operation
Replacing faulty timer modules

Regular inspection ensures reliable automatic lubrication.

16. Typical Replacement Cost

Lubrication timer module costs vary depending on features and control capability.
