Overview

The HDC&B is a heavy-duty column and boom welding machine (a welding manipulator). A vertical column carries a horizontal boom, and the boom holds the welding head, such as a submerged arc welding (SAW) head, and positions it over the work. It is used on large pressure vessels, tanks, and wind tower sections, usually together with a welding rotator that turns the shell.

It is built on a square-type guide rail for high load capacity, good stability, and very little downward deflection of the boom.
