The Heavy-Duty Large-Diameter Hydrostatic Tester is a machine for pressure testing large-diameter pipe. It checks that each pipe is leak-tight and can carry its rated load under high water pressure.

The test seals both ends of the pipe, fills it with liquid (usually water, which can be dyed to make leaks easier to see), and raises the pressure to the specified test pressure. The pressure supply is then closed off and the pressure is watched: any drop shows a leak. Huaye says its hydrostatic testers can meet the API standard.
