Cut-to-Length Lines (Stop-Go, Continuous and Trapezoidal) | American Steel Products, Toledo, USA
American Steel Products's cut-to-length lines take a master coil of flat rolled steel, unroll and flatten it, cut it to a set length and stack the sheets into a bundle. They are offered as used machines and as built-to-order lines.
Three configurations are available: Stop-Go (tight-line), continuous (free-loop) and trapezoidal. Equipment varies with the strip width, thickness and incoming coil weight, and a double leveler, skin pass or stretcher leveler can be added where flatness is critical.
Key Features
- Stop-Go layout: strip stops completely before a stationary shear cuts each sheet to a preset length
- Stop-Go lines are shorter than free-loop designs and need no looping pit, which lowers foundation cost
- A flying shear can be fitted to a Stop-Go line to raise output, especially on heavy gauge
- Continuous layout: strip runs at a constant rate into a looping pit, then a servo feeder measures and feeds the shear
- Continuous lines can use a stationary or flying shear
- Trapezoidal layout: shear cuts at an angle from 90 degrees to 30 degrees to the strip
- Double leveler, skin pass or stretcher leveler options for flatness

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is the difference between Stop-Go and continuous lines? A Stop-Go line stops the strip for each cut and is the lowest-cost, shortest layout, while a continuous line runs the strip through a looping pit for higher productivity on lighter gauges.
- Which line suits heavy-gauge material? Tight-line Stop-Go machines suit heavy gauge, as their thickness capacity is virtually unlimited, and a flying shear can be added to raise output.
- What is the trapezoidal line used for? It cuts angled sheets and blanks, mainly for the automotive and tapered pole industries.
- What should I send for a quotation? Send the material type, strip width and thickness range, maximum coil weight, sheet lengths and tolerances, output target, flatness requirements and whether you want a used or built-to-order line.
