Full Description
ANCA was founded in 1974 in Melbourne, Australia, by electrical engineer Pat Boland and technician Pat McCluskey. In the 1980s it decided to focus on CNC tool grinders for the world market, and it opened its first overseas branch, in Michigan, in 1986. That same year it was the first to use touch-probe in-machine measurement on a tool grinder. ANCA now employs more than 1,000 people, exports about 99% of what it makes, and reinvests almost 10% of annual turnover in R&D.
The company is vertically integrated. As well as the machines, it develops its own software and, through ANCA Motion, its own motion control technology. Its grinder ranges include the compact FX, versatile MX, high-power TX and high-precision ULTRA lines, the EDG range for eroding PCD tools, and dedicated machines for taps, gear tools, drills, blank and edge preparation and laser marking.
ANCA's software covers tool design, gear cutter production and connected manufacturing, including AIMS Connect for automated, data-driven production. Combined with robot loading and automation cells, this lets tool makers run grinders unattended for long periods. Its customers span aerospace, automotive, medical, electronics, woodworking and tool manufacturing, and include Boeing, General Electric, Sandvik, ISCAR, Rolls-Royce and Johnson & Johnson.
Beyond its Melbourne headquarters, ANCA runs offices in the USA, Mexico, the UK, Germany, China, India, Japan, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, Taiwan, South Korea and Brazil, with representatives across Europe and elsewhere. It trains customers through the ANCA Academy.
