Nakata Mfg. Co., Ltd. (Nakata Manufacturing)
Type: Manufacturer of tube and pipe mills, roll forming lines and coil processing systems
Headquarters: 3-7-6 Tagawa, Yodogawa-ku, Osaka 532-0027, Japan
Nakata suits large tube and pipe producers making a wide size range, especially those that want to cut roll costs and changeover time. Its FFX mills use common rolls across many sizes, making them a strong fit for mills producing structural, mechanical or line pipe in frequent short runs. Its ODF mills suit producers forming very thin or low-ductility strip, such as high-strength or exotic alloys, which conventional mills struggle with. Buyers who want premium Japanese engineering, with design, installation and commissioning from one supplier, will find Nakata a natural choice.
Product Details
FFX Mill
Nakata's flagship forming mill. It uses common (shared) rolls across a range of tube sizes, so most size changes need no roll swap, while still producing high-quality tube and pipe.
ODF Mill
Orbital die forming mill for ultra-thin and low-ductility materials, formed without lubrication.
RollBox
A forming mill for square and rectangular pipe that reduces the required coil width by up to 3%, saving material.
Fin-Pass & Sizing Equipment
Fin-pass and sizing stands that finish the tube shape before and after welding.
Detwist Stand
Equipment that controls the position of the weld seam as the tube runs through the mill.
Welding Systems
Arc, ERW and laser welding systems for tube and pipe.
Roll Forming & Coil Processing
Roll forming lines and coil processing systems.
Turnkey Support
Design, manufacture, installation, commissioning and adjustment.
Full Description
Nakata Manufacturing is a Japanese tube and pipe mill builder based in Yodogawa-ku, Osaka, with more than a century of history. It's led by president Mitsuru Nakata and offers full support from mill design and manufacture through to installation, commissioning and fine adjustment on site.
Its best-known technology is the FF series of forming mills, now led by the FFX. These mills use common rolls across a range of tube sizes. Instead of changing a full roll set for each size, the mill is adjusted, which saves the cost of buying many roll sets and cuts changeover time. Nakata has delivered more than 80 FF-series mills to 14 countries.
Nakata has also developed specialist mills for hard-to-form material. The ODF (orbital die forming) mill forms ultra-thin and low-ductility strip without lubrication, suiting high-strength and specialty alloys. RollBox forms square and rectangular pipe while reducing the coil width needed by up to 3%, a direct material saving at high volume. Around these, it supplies fin-pass and sizing stands, detwist stands for weld seam control, and arc, ERW and laser welding systems.
The company also builds roll forming lines and coil processing systems, so producers can source strip preparation and forming from one engineering partner.

How does Nakata RollBox save material?
It forms square and rectangular pipe using up to 3% less coil width than conventional forming.
How many FF-series mills has Nakata delivered?
More than 80, in 14 countries.
Does Nakata install and commission mills?
Yes. It provides design, manufacture, installation, commissioning and adjustment.
Where is Nakata based?
