Wind Tower Plate Rolling Machine 260x4200 | EZHONG, Hubei, China
EZHONG Wind Tower Plate Rolling Machine – CNC Three-Roll System for Tower Cans and Cones
The EZHONG wind tower plate rolling machine is a heavy CNC variable-geometry three-roll machine for wind turbine tower sections. It rolls plate up to 260 mm thick and 4,200 mm wide, with 5,300 tonnes of upper roll force and 4,050,000 Nm of drive torque. Built as a complete rolling system with automated feeding, overhead support and shell alignment, it pre-bends and rolls a full cone section in one pass, typically in 20 to 30 minutes, with a single operator and no overhead crane needed to position the plate.
Built for Wind Tower Production
- Cone rolling: A cone stop on the lower roll bearing seat slows the small end of the fan-shaped plate, rolling cones up to a 30° angle at 50% of full load
- One-pass forming: Both plate ends are pre-bent and the section is rolled in a single load, without turning the plate
- Fast cycle times: A tower cone section can be completed in around 20–30 minutes
- Single-operator system: The full rolling system is run by one person
- Self-tilting overhead support: Supports the rolled shell and tilts automatically to match the cone angle, with no crane required
- Automatic plate alignment: An advanced feeding table positions plates automatically, without an overhead crane
- Shell alignment for welding: Used with a hydraulic clamp, the machine corrects the plate and holds it for tack welding. A correction device on the feed-side support fixes axial and radial misalignment, and grippers hold both plate edges for fast alignment
- High capacity: EZHONG states the machine can support production of at least 200 complete wind towers a year
How It Works
- Three-roll variable-geometry design with downward-acting cylinders
- The upper roll is the main drive, powered by a hydraulic motor through a planetary reducer
- Each lower roll has its own hydraulic motor and planetary reducer, giving a four-drive combined transmission
- The upper roll's lift is computer controlled, with automatic levelling, on-screen display and ±0.2 mm synchronisation
- Each end of both lower rolls moves horizontally and independently under hydraulic power, so centre distance can be set for any diameter
- A narrow centre distance gives better grip for small diameters, while a wide one makes thick plate easier to bend and improves roundness correction
Key Features
- Maximum rolling thickness 260 mm, width 4,200 mm
- Maximum upper roll downward force 5,300 t
- Maximum drive torque 4,050,000 Nm
- Anti-slip design, with instant brakes on all motors for precise stopping and shorter straight edges
- Fast-response hydraulic brakes hold the plate end in position and prevent it slipping off the machine
- CNC system with PGS programming that guides the operator through setup
- Fixed main console plus a remote pushbutton box
- Safety interlocks
- Balance mechanism at the upper roll end for easy removal of finished shells
- Solid, high-strength rolls with low deflection and long service life
- Forged high-carbon steel transmission gears
- Integral welded steel frame
- Foundation costs around 30% lower than comparable machines

Frequently Asked Questions
- How long does it take to roll a tower section? Around 20–30 minutes for a cone section.
- Can it roll cones? Yes, up to a 30° cone angle at 50% of the machine's full load.
- How many operators are needed? One operator can run the full system.
- Do I need an overhead crane? No. The feeding table positions the plate automatically and the overhead support tilts itself to match the cone angle.
- Can it help with welding setup? Yes. With a hydraulic clamp, it corrects the plate and holds it ready for tack welding, and the feed-side support corrects shell misalignment.
- What foundation does it need? EZHONG states foundation costs are around 30% lower than comparable machines.
- What should I send for a quotation? Plate material and yield strength, maximum thickness and width, tower section diameters and cone angles, annual tower output, and your local voltage and frequency.
