Alma suits metal stampers, automotive suppliers and manufacturers that need a press quickly and want to choose from a very large stock rather than wait months for a new build. With more than 700 presses on hand, buyers can find a specific tonnage, bed size or press type, from high-speed and straight-side presses to hydraulic and servo models, often for immediate delivery. Full Description
Alma Machinery's history begins after the Second World War, when Harry "Lucky Bucky" Walters started selling surplus machinery. The business was incorporated in 1969 as Alma Machinery Company, named after Alma Walters, and it's now run by the third generation of the family, with Jim Walters as President and Ken King as Vice President. It's based in Ann Arbor, Michigan, with a second location in Nashville, Tennessee.
Alma specialises in reconditioned presses and says it holds the world's largest inventory of them, with more than 700 units available. Its stock covers mechanical stamping presses (straight-side, high-speed, OBI, gap-frame, double-crank, knuckle-joint and servo) and hydraulic presses (four-post, gib-guided, gap-frame, compression moulding, heated platen, die-cutting and transfer). Brands include Aida, Bliss, Komatsu, Minster, Niagara, Schuler, Verson, Federal, Rousselle, Stamtec and Greenerd.
To complete a stamping line, Alma also sells coil reels, straighteners, servo feeders and upenders, along with shears, bolster plates and other auxiliary equipment. It reconditions and tests machines before sale, offers buyback programmes and appraisals, and focuses on short lead times.
Alma is a member of the Machinery Dealers National Association and the Precision Metalforming Association.
